About This Blog

This being my first post, I thought I would write about my theme for this blog.

Frequently I see things happening in the world around me that cause me to wonder, "Were they really thinking". These things are usually just an annoyance, but sometimes they just strike me as either the result of failure to plan, lack of forethought, ignorance, or just plain stupid. No matter the reason for it, someone failed to think things through and allowed the foolishness to continue.

Today I saw a news item that finally tipped it for me and made me decide to start this blog. I read a news item about Retailer Zara pulled women's bags from the shelf because an ignorant 19-year-old girl complained that they had Nazi swastika on them. In fact they do not, but no one seems to know the difference between the Indian symbol of peace, harmony, and prosperity and the Nazi political symbol.

While the Hindu symbol is frequently seen turning in the same direction as the Nazi symbol, the Nazi symbol is never seen turning the other way, as is the Indian symbol on the bag.

The symbol on the bag is clearly NOT the Nazi symbol, yet no one in this chain of events seems interested in this fact. This seems like another case of caving in to ignorance, even at the cost of insulting Indians who likely mad the bag. Discarding their symbol of good things because some ignorant shopper and and store clerks is terrible and I believe that Zara owes an apology to the good people who made the bag for casting their symbol of peace and good fortune as a symbol of evil.

Were they really thinking?
